SharePoint- Open in File Explorer Missing or Greyed Out
Audience – Tier 1, Tier 2
Description: User states the option to use the “Open in File Explorer” option on SharePoint is gone or greyed out. This feature ONLY works in 32-bit browsers as it has been removed by Microsoft. There is a workaround, however.
Procedure:
- Advise the user this fix will ONLY work in Edge, if they agree proceed.
- Open Edge and click the 3 dots in the top right corner.
- Click Settings
- Click Default Browser from the list on the left
- Click the dropdown next to “Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer Mode”
- Click Restart on the next screen to restart the browser.
- Navigate to the SharePoint page in question and right click the Tab at the top of the page and click “Reload tab in Internet Explorer”
- A new window will open with 2 toggles, turn both of them on. (The toggles should light up blue when on)
- From now on that site will open in Explorer mode, if you need the site to go back to regular mode for whatever reason the user can right click the tab and select “Exit tab from internet explorer mode”
Escalation:
If an escalation is necessary, please escalate to Tier 2 as the first POC, if Tier 2 is unavailable please escalate to SME.
